Who we are
Enigmee is run by [the operator’s legal name and address]. Write to hello@enigmee.com about anything on this page.
The short version
There’s no account and no sign-up. Your game is saved in your own browser. What you type goes to AI providers so the suspects can answer, and we don’t keep it on our server. We hold an email address only if you give us one for something you asked for.
What stays in your browser
Your board, notes, interview transcripts, progress, the name you play under and your settings are kept in this browser’s local storage. They don’t leave it except as described below. Once you’ve heard the suspects, their voices are kept in its cache, so they’re fetched only once. Clearing the site’s data removes all of it.
What leaves your browser
- Your questions. Each question, the interview so far and the name you play under go through our server to the AI providers below, so the suspect can answer. Our server doesn’t store them. A suspect’s voice is made in your own browser, so what they say isn’t sent anywhere to be spoken. OpenRouter states no period. The companies that run the models may keep what you type and use it to improve them, under their own terms.
- Your address on the internet (IP). Used to keep the service fair, through rate limits and daily allowances. We never store it as it is: we keep a salted, shortened hash of it, with the times of your last minute’s requests and that day’s seconds of speech. That record is deleted once it has been idle for two days or a little longer.
- Your email address, only if you type it into one of our forms: to send you the link, to tell you there’s room, or to read your application to write for us. We keep the address, what you asked for, the case, and, if you apply to write, your link and what you wrote about yourself. We don’t send a newsletter. [Retention period: owner to set]
Please don’t type anything private. Suspects are fiction, but what you type is real data.
Analytics
We count steps in the game through PostHog, in the EU: for example “a case was started” or “a charge was made”, with the case, where you came from (the site or link that sent you), what sort of device you’re on and whether sound is on. Each count carries a random number for this tab, which your browser forgets when you close it, so we can’t tell it’s you if you come back. We’ve told PostHog not to keep your IP address or work out where you are. The counts never include what you type, the name you play under, your email address or anything a suspect says.
Cookies
The game sets no cookies for players. Writers who sign in to the studio get a sign-in cookie.
Who handles it for us
| OpenRouter | Passes your questions and the interview so far to the AI model that plays the suspect, and to the models that judge what you put to a suspect or the court. |
|---|---|
| The AI model's hosts | The suspects are played by a DeepSeek model. Third-party hosts run it, chosen by OpenRouter; DeepSeek itself doesn't. |
| Google (Gemini) | Turns a suspect's words into speech for writers trying a voice in the studio. Players' voices are made in their own browser. |
| Hugging Face, jsDelivr | Serve the voices (66 MB, or 80 MB if you choose Piper), which your browser fetches once when you go into the interview room with sound on. They see your IP address and which files were fetched, nothing more. |
| Vercel | Hosts the site and runs its server. |
| Supabase | Our database: published cases, the email list, and writers' sign-in. |
| Cloudflare R2 | Stores and serves pictures for writers' cases. |
| PostHog (EU) | Counts of what happens in the game, as described under Analytics. Kept in the EU. |
| Meta, Replicate | Used only in the writers' studio, for writing help and pictures. Players never reach them. |
Not in use yet, and listed so nothing changes without notice:
| Resend | Sends an email you asked for. |

The game is for people aged 18 or over. If you think someone younger has given us an address, tell us and we’ll delete it.
